Behind every wine is a story, and that of the American Gothic is one of family and dedication that stretched decades back.  Pat Paulsen  joined the Marines in 1945 and went on to hold a number of odd jobs before trying his hand in the world of Comedy. In 1959, Pat and Jane Paulsen married just before Pat’s career began to flourish.

Pat’s satirical comedic style took off, as he toured regularly and made appearances on a number of television programs such as “Sesame Street” and “The Wild Wild West.” He even satirically ran for President six times between 1968 and 1996, actually earning some votes.

It was in 1971 the Paulsens bought a 350 acre ranch outside Cloverdale, and as Grapes were gaining popularity in the area, the Paulsens planted vineyards and later bought the 3.25 acre pseudo village of Asti. Declaring himself mayor, Pat Paulson Vineyards winery was born.

Jane has always been the driving force behind the winery and the family, and through some ups and downs she still is today. First launched in the mid 1980’s to much acclaim, the American Gothic red is a dry blend of premium California grapes, primarily made up of the hearty and delicious Cabernet Sauvignon. Bronze medalist in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition this blend is very drinkable on its own and also pairs beautifully with hearty entrees.

With a label featuring Pat and Jane’s recreation of the classic Grant Wood painting, we’d love to bring you a few bottles (or more!) of this new edition of an old classic.
