New World Syrah 2021

By the label alone, one can tell that this outstanding Syrah aims to showcase some of the best features of New World South African winemaking. At the same time, they seek to get back to basics. Lamenting the overly artificial techniques used to “enhance” wine like higher residual sugar, added tannins, and cheap oak, the New World winemakers aspired to create a great wine using natural and refined techniques. Without a doubt, they have succeeded. Coming from the premier South African region of Stellenbosch, the New World Syrah is a balanced and extremely (perhaps dangerously!) drinkable wine. Their natural techniques unleash a wine that is full of unique flavors of spiciness and freshness. On that note, this Syrah is best paired with a boldly flavored and fresh dinner…maybe stop by your local farmer’s market and put something together!
