Château Freyneau Cuvée Traditionnelle 2016
Château Freyneau Cuvée Traditionnelle, hailing from the Commune of Montussan in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, perfectly captures the essence of Bordeaux Supérieur. Nestled halfway between Bordeaux and Libourne, the Maulin family meticulously tends to their 53-hectare vineyard.
Château Freyneau Cuvée Traditionnelle is a blend of 80% Merlot, complemented by 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec. The 35-year-old vines thrive in clay-limestone soil on a picturesque hillside, fostering impeccable fruit maturity. With a vineyard area of 13 hectares and a grape yield of 40 hectoliters per hectare, Château Freyneau's viticulture is a testament to quality over quantity. This 2016 vintage reveals a sustained color in the glass, while the nose delights with notes of spice, cinnamon, and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, it unfolds as a complex red wine, striking a perfect balance and showcasing the allure of black fruits. Wine critic, Roger Voss of Wine Enthusiast gave this vintage an 88/100 points and said, "Now mature, this rich wine is at its peak. With rounded black fruits and tannins just hinting at dryness and spice, the wine is generous, full bodied and ready to drink”. With 58,000 bottles produced, Château Freyneau 2016 stands as a testament to the Maulin family's dedication to crafting Bordeaux wines of exceptional depth and character. This Merlot blend is extremely food friendly and can easily be paired with chicken and other lighter meats as well as lightly-spiced darker meats.
