Mare Viva Red 2022

Mare Viva, when translated literally from Portuguese, means “Living Water.” A poetic sounding name indeed, but it is actually a local euphemism for a flood, the water seeming to surge and live when flooding. Well, perhaps this name is applicable to this wine because it certainly is a flood of flavor!

While the Portuguese are known primarily for port, they have been making wine there for over one thousand years (without any exaggeration) and their red blends are incredible values right now. Multiple­ native grapes (like Castelao, found in this blend) are blended together expertly to create a simply sensational wine.

Ripe and juicy, the palate on this beautiful red is something to be savored. Flavors of plums and strawberries take the delicious lead. The tannins are soft and provide a balance that makes the finish long-lasting and silky smooth. This is a great wine to open for just about any occasion.
