Pinelli Dolcetto d'Asti DOC 2021
Pinelli Dolcetto d'Asti DOC 2021
The vineyard where Vistamonte Dolcetto grapes are grown sits in the shadow of Monviso Mountain, the highest point in the Cottian Alps which straddle the border between Italy and France, and serves as the wine’s namesake and the inspiration for the gorgeous watercolor label adorning the bottle. At over 3,000 feet tall, Monviso is a point of reference for the entire Po valley and Piedmont growing region and is visible on clear days for many miles. The Piedmont region is known for growing Dolcetto wines. Confusingly, Dolcetto (which means “little sweet one” in Italian) is not sweet at all but is instead berry-forward with just enough tannins to balance richer foods. Vistamonte Dolcetto has a ruby red color with ruby reflections. The nose is very intense, with fruity notes of cherry, berries, jam, and vanilla. The palate is dry, fresh, and pleasantly soft. We recommend pairing with meat sauce pasta dishes and second courses of red meat.
