St. Laurand Red

Saint Laurand Collection Privee (Private Collection, in English) is a truly special wine. It is a wine imported especially for Splash Wines. We don’t do that often but when we do it is for one very good reason: we found an amazing wine at an amazing price that wasn’t available yet in the United States that we couldn’t help but share with you. This beautiful French red met all of those characteristics so we had to bring it in!

This wine is made entirely with Carignan, a lesser known French grape popular in the Rhone Valley. The Saint Laurand comes from the south of France, near the Mediterranean coast, giving it a completely different style from some of the French reds you’d see from up north, like in Bordeaux.

Ruby red in color, this red is beautiful. The nose is aromatic and exciting, with red fruits of cherry and currant leading with a little bit of pepper also present. Fruit forward on the palate, the wine is round and smooth, full of elegance (you’d expect no less from France!). This is nice and easy drinking red meaning it will pair with food across the spectrum from white meats like chicken and pork, to red meats and even a delicious cheese platter.
