Stellenbosch is South Africa’s most famous wine region for good reason – the wines of the region are truly extraordinary. However, as you sometimes see from Napa, the prices occasionally get inflated because the name Stellenbosch is on the label. Alex Dale, the winemaker at the Winery of Good Hope, knows this and decided to make a Stellenbosch Cabernet that gets rid of the high price and just delivers amazing value – something we at Splash can always get behind.
That Cabernet was the Vinum Africa, a showstopper that is one you can’t pass up. The fruit comes from two of the prized vineyards on the slopes of Stellenbosch’s Heidelberg Mountain, hand-picked for an optimum wine. The nose is ripe with gorgeous notes of blueberry with an earthy undertone. A supple and rounded palate with notes of both red and black fruits makes a stunning first impression with a hint of oak adding complexity and flavor to this great wine. Big Stellenbosch flavors without a bloated price tag.
