Merlot is one of the most widely planted red grapes in France. It is known as one of the leading grapes of Bordeaux. However, it also is one of the stars of southern France, where it steps into the spotlight. The Nouveau Monde Merlot is a great example. From the heart of the Languedoc region, this wine is a superstar. Nouveau Monde may mean New World but this wine is classically French and we absolutely love it.
The wines of Nouveau Monde are meant to be, as they say, brimming over with freshness. Fruit forward, easy to drink and impossible not to love. The word they love to associate with their wines the most is charm and this wine certainly won us over in near record fashion.
Aged in stainless steel, this wine is exceptionally vibrant and really displays the fruity side of Merlot. It is fresh on the nose, with aromas of cassis leading. On the palate, there is a little hint of slightly bitter cocoa, providing balance and complexity. It is full, fruity and supple and certainly a wine you’ll miss when the bottle is empty. A great wine for freshly grilled food, it is also a great pizza wine. A true superstar.
